Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 4–5 June 2013 during A ACIAR quarium Survey in Kavieng District; additional specimens photographed at St. KVG 17 on the Bismarck Sea side of northern Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014 , and at St. KVG28 (southeast of New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 24 Aug. 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Sabah ( Malaysia), Philippines and New Guinea east to Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coastal reefs, in lagoons, and on seaward reef slopes, 12–120 m depth. Marine.
