Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photograph taken on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; specimens photographed at St. KVG26 (off western Bauddisson Island) by Serge Andréfouët on 23 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken on east side of Tsoileunung Island , southeast of New Hanover , at 6– 21 m depth, St. KR 124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Caroline and Society islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary, in pairs or in groups, in coral-rich areas of lagoon coral reefs and slopes of seaward coral reefs, 2–30 m depth. Marine.
