Chaetodon ornatissimus Cuvier [ex Solander] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1831 —Ornate butterflyfish ( Fig. 86 )

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 3–4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District, and by Serge Andréfouët southeast of Tunschui, Kavieng District, St. KVG16, on 17 Aug. 2014; a specimen observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover, 4–15 m depth, St. T23, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Maldives east to Hawaiian and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Lord Howe Island. Found in coral-rich areas in lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–36 m depth. Marine.
