Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Taiwan, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found on sand or mud bottoms, entering estuaries, 1–75 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
