Lutjanus ehrenbergii (Peters 1869) —Ehrenberg's snapper

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Carteret Harbour, Lambom, New Ireland as Mesoprion ehrenbergii by Peters (1877: 831); record confirmed by Allen & Talbot (1985: 33). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Pohnpei ( Caroline Islands), north to Taiwan, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found in groups in coastal reefs and estuaries, 1–20 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
