Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken at the entrance to Kavieng Harbour, Kavieng District, at 15–18 m depth, St. KD58, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Caroline and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Taiwan, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in seaward coral reefs, 5–65 m depth. Marine.
