Status at New Ireland. New record from Papua New Guinea, based on NTUM 11257 (1 specimen, St. CP 4459- 16, 8.5 km westnorthwest of Kavieng). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 10 June 2009, and at 8 m depth by Dean Tully on 20 Sept. 2015.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia), New Caledonia, Tonga and Rapa. Benthic, on sandy substrates adjacent to coral reefs, 1–100 m depth. Marine.
