Sargocentron praslin View in CoL (Lacepède [ex Commerson] 1802)—Darkstriped squirrelfish

Status at New Ireland. Originally described from Port Praslin, New Ireland by Lacepède (1802: 397, 419) as Perca praslin ; a video of a specimen taken on the north coast of Kavieng District, at 6–24 m depth, St. KR164, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in seaward coral reefs, hiding in holes and crevices during the day, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
