Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Circumglobal in tropical and temperate seas. Coastal, often entering estuaries, rivers and streams, 0–10 m depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
