Crenimugil buchanani (Bleeker 1853) — Bluetail mullet

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa east to Mariana and Caroline islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in shallow coastal waters, entering lagoons, estuaries and rivers, 0–3 m depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
