Maurolicus javanicus Parin & Kobyliansky 1993 — Javanese hatchetfish ( Fig. 17 ) Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM material (1 specimen, St. CP4420-27, northeast of New Hanover; 2 specimens, St. CP4437-8-9, northeast of New Hanover; 3 specimens, St. CP4438-27-29, northeast of New Hanover; 1 specimen, St. CP4498-12, north of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific.

Pelagic, 0–490 m depth. Marine.
