Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by White et al. (2018: 229), based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District at 30 m depth by Diean Tully on 21 Sept. 2012; previously misidentified from Kavieng as Trygon uarnak (non Gmelin [ex Forsskål], 1789) by Peters (1877: 853).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: northern Australia and New Guinea, 0–45 m depth. Found on sand bottoms, also on reef flats or in lagoons, entering estuaries. Transitional water and marine.
