Type material: holotype plus 5 paratype workers labelled ” PAKISTAN: Chitral, Madaglasht 2700 m, 26. V. 1983 27b, Besuchet – Löbl“, depository: MHN Genève.

All material examined. Only the type series is known.

Geographic range. The type locality is situated at the southwestern flank of the W Himalayas at 35.78°N, 72.03°E and 2700 m.

Diagnosis ( Tab. 9 View Tab , Figs. 91 View Figs –92; key): Among the Himalayan-Tibetan species it is easily identified as a combination of very long scape (SL/CS 900 1.022), extremely long gular pilosity (GuHL/CS 900 0.154), and very high seta counts on genae (nGen 900 19.9), underside of head (nGu 900 19.2) and hind tibiae (nHT 900 31.2). Coloration: Dorsum of head blackish brown; genae and clypeus medium brown; mandibles and head capsule at mandibular angles yellowish; mesosoma, femora and tibiae medium brown; tibio-femoral and tibio-metatarsal joints and antennae yellowish.

Biology. Unknown.

Comments. There is no species known which appears to be closely related to L. hirsutus .
