( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13 – 17. 13 )

Description. Male. Integument dark brown to black. Pubescence predominantly grayish-white dorsally except for dark-brown or black maculae on spot on each side of occiput, near posterior margin of superior lobes of eyes; a large longitudinal mark on each of middle of pronotum, surrounded by grayish pubescence. Scutellum covered with black pubescence. Elytra with suture and external margins covered by black pubescence, a longitudinal linear spot in middle of base, and a large semi-triangular mark at beginning of posterior third.

Antennae reaching apices of elytra at apical tip of antennomere V. Prothorax with obtuse protuberance at beginning of posterior third; pronotum with single transverse line of punctures near posterior margin. Elytral apices obliquely truncate, angles not produced. Surface of elytra finely and densely punctate on basal half. Fifth urotergite rounded at apex; fifth urosternite transversely truncate at tip. All males have an exposed double ventral projection that corresponds to apex of tegmen. Metatarsomere I, 1.5 times longer than II+III.

Female. Antennae reaching apices of elytra approximately at tip of antennomere VI. Ovipositor projecting slightly beyond apices of elytra, last urotergite elongate, rounded at apex; last urosternite semicircularly emarginate.

Etymology. The species is named after Eugenio Nearns, for his friendship and careful work on Cerambycidae .

Measurements (mm), male/female. Total length, 3.7–5.0/5.1–5.6; prothorax length, 0.9–1.0/1.0–1.0; prothorax width, 1.0–1.3/1.4–1.5; elytral length, 2.5–3.8/3.8–4.0; humeral width, 1.2–1.8/1.7–2.0.

Type material. Holotype male. BRAZIL, Pará: Jacareacanga, I.1969, F. R. Barbosa col. ( MNRJ). Paratypes, same data, 9 males, 5 females; same locality and collector, 3 males, 10 females, II. 1969, 2 males, III.1969, 5 males, IV.1969, 2 females, VII.1969, female, X.1969, same locality, male, female, XII.1968, M. Alvarenga col. Amazonas: Manaus, male, 5 females, XII.1959, C. Elias col. Reserva Campinas (80 km N Manaus), female, 3.III.1977, B. C. Ratcliffe col. All in MNRJ.

Comments. The pattern of coloration is very similar to that of Nyssodrysina venusta (Bates, 1863) , but in S. nearnsi sp. nov. the longitudinal central line of the pronotum is grayish. In N. venusta the median area of the pronotum is entirely dark brown, without grayish lines; also, the posterior angles of the prothorax are acute and projected, but are rounded in S. nearnsi sp. nov.
