Stenolis theobromae View in CoL ; Monné, 1985e: 547; 2005: 128 (cat.); Swift et al., 2010: 43 (distr.).

Redescription. Male. Integument dark brown to black. Antennomeres III–VI with proximal two-thirds brown and distal third black. Pubescence predominantly brownish-gray with dark-brown pubescence on pronotum, two bands halfway from median line to side, each band containing three spots and narrow band along middle; each elytron with several dark-brown markings, as follows: a conspicuous subtriangular area on second fourth, with its base on lateral margin and becoming visible from dorsal aspect, a subtrapezoidal area slightly behind middle near suture margin, and a group of three smaller spots on distal fourth of elytron. Femora and proximal halves of tibiae brown; distal halves of tibiae and tarsi black. Ventral surface covered with grayish pubescence.

Antennae reaching apices of elytra approximately at middle of antennomere VI. Prothorax gradually widening from anterior margin, with obtuse lateral projections behind middle, narrowing shortly before hind margin. Pronotum with single transverse line of punctures near posterior margin. Apex of elytra obliquely truncate, outer angle slightly projecting in obtuse tooth. Punctures scattered over elytral surface, each corresponding to a dark-brown spot. Fifth urotergite truncate at tip; fifth urosternite emarginate at apex. Metatarsomere I as long as II+III.

Measurements (mm), male. Total length, 6.8; prothorax length, 1.5; prothorax width, 2.0; elytral length, 4.6; humeral width, 2.4.

Specimens examined: COSTA RICA, Limón: Hamburg farm, 3 males, 1924, Nevermann col. Zent, male, 10.XII.1956, F. Lara col. (MNRJ). PANAMA, Bocas del Toro: 16 km W Chiriquí Grande, male, 21–22.II.1999, J. E. Wappes col. (new country record, ACMT). Darién: Estación Ambiental Cana (500 m), female, 4.VI.1996, R. S. Anderson col. (CMNC).

Distribution. Costa Rica and Panama.

Comments. S. theobromae differs from the closely related S. pulverea in the large dark-brown markings on the elytra behind the humeri, which extend upward and are visible from above. There are no similar markings in S. pulverea .
