Material examined. Eight specimens: MNRJ, 26933 (2, 183.0–205.0 mm), T, E-519; MNRJ (2, 193.0–211.0 mm), T, E-519; MNRJ (1, 209.0 mm), T, E-525; MNRJ (1, 270.0 mm), T, E-526; MNRJ (1, 289.0 mm), T, E- 527; MNRJ (1, 281.0 mm), T, E-552.

Distribution. First record of Squalogadus modificatus in the WSA. Collected from off Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, at depths from 1342 to 1929 m. It was described from off Kyushu, Japan (32°32’ N, 132°25’ W), and is known to have a wide distribution throughout the North Atlantic and Pacific ( Geistdoerfer 1990; Iwamoto 1999; Iwamoto 2002).
