Comments.
This taxon was originally described as a subspecies of T. bayonii by Laurent (1964). Butler et al. (2019) provided the first evidence that huilensis should be considered a full species, rather than a subspecies. Based on newly obtained molecular and morphological data, Ceríaco et al. (2024) found that the species is more widespread than originally known. It is associated with the highlands of the Leba Escarpment in Huíla Province and the Serra da Neve inselberg.
