67. Nitzschia fluminensis Grunow ( Figs 146–149 View FIGURES 146–156 ).

Synonym: Nitzschia neogena Grunow.

References: Foged 1984, p. 75, pl. 58, fig. 4; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 381, pl. 202, figs 6–9, pl. 94, fig. 1; Hein et al. 2008, p. 84, pl. 58, fig. 12

Type locality: The Adriatic Sea.

Morphometrics: Valves 171 (130–160) μm long, 13 (13–15) μm wide, fibulae 4 (4–6) in 10 μm, transapical striae 14 (14–16) in 10 μm.

Remarks: Nitzschia fluminensis is similar to N. majuscula Grunow in size and valve morphology, but differs in that fibulae are irregularly spaced and partly prolonged into transapical ribs. It is a marine taxa inhabiting warmer coasts, of Puerto Rico ( Navarro 1983), Cuba ( Foged 1984), the Mediterranean ( Witkowski et al. 2000), the Bahamas ( Hein et al. 2008), the Cape Verde Islands off the northwestern Africa ( Stidolph et al. 2012), and the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico (Siqueiros-Beltrones et al. 2017). In the Seogwipo coast, it is rarely encountered in rock pools along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, representing a new record for South Korea.
