Type locality: Scotland: Lamlash Bay .

Morphometrics: Valves 198 (85–106) μm long, 77 (64–95) μm wide, transapical striae 11 (13–20) in 10 μm.

Remarks: The first collection of this taxon was from Scotland, but mostly reported in subtropical or tropical regions. Auricula complexa has been reported from the coasts of Mahé Island in the Seychelles in the western Indian Ocean ( Giffen 1980), Puerto Rico ( Navarro 1983), the northeastern Brazil ( Gomes et al. 1989), the Gulf of Thailand (Teanpiscut & Patarajinda 2007), Yap and Guam Islands of western Pacific Ocean ( Navarro & Lobban 2009, Lobban et al. 2012), and China ( Cheng & Gao 2013). This taxon inhabits the coastal region of the southern sea of Korea ( Park et al. 2014), and is rarely epiphytic on seaweeds in the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island.
