Basionym: Amphora rhombica var. intermedia Cleve.

Type locality: Cette , France .

Morphometrics: Valves 90–124 (80–105) μm long, 18–20 (17–19) μm wide, and transapical striae 14–15 (14–17) in 10 μm.

Remarks: The species is distinguished from the nominate variety, Tetramphora rhombica (Kitton) Stepanek & Kociolek , by its smaller size and finer striation (14–17 vs 10–12 in 10 μm). Tetramphora intermedia was reported from several locations including Cuba ( Foged 1984), Palawan of Philippines ( Podzorski & Håkansson 1987), Florida Bay ( Wachnicka & Gaiser 2007), Guam ( Lobban et al. 2012), the Galapagos Islands ( Stidolph et al. 2012), and the Mediterranean Sea ( Álvarez-Blanco & Blanco 2014). It is also a typical diatom taxon found in the warmer coasts. In South Korea, it was reported recently from the lagoon in the Seogwipo coast by Park et al. (2017), and in this survey, encountered rarely as an epiphyte along the coast.
