Stems 20-80 cm, stout, leafy, overwintering. Basal leaves absent; lower cauline pedate, petiolate, with sheathing base; leaf-segments 7-11, narrowly lanceolate, serrate. Bracts broadly ovate, entire, occasionally with a small lamina. Flowers 1-3 cm in diameter, numerous, nodding, campanulate. Perianth green, usually with purplish margins.
