Perennial up to 50 cm. Leaves 1-3 mm wide, linear, acuminate, flat; sheaths several times as long as diameter of stem. Flowers 1-7 together; bracts ovate-lanceolate, with a long, usually green, subulate point. Epicalyx-scales broadly obovate, almost truncate, emarginate, whitish-coriaceous and broadly scarious; awn 3-6 mm. Calyx 15-20x 2-3 mm, almost cylindrical.
