33. Encyclia seidelii Pabst (1976: 81) . Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Datas, no date, Seidel 1111 (holotype: HB 6113 !) ( Figs. 20 , 26H ) .

Epiphytic herbs, up to 32.0 cm tall. Pseudobulbs conical, 8.5 × 2.5 cm. Leaves 2, lanceolate, 22.2 × 1.7 cm, apex acute. Inflorescence a densely 6–10-flowered, simple raceme; peduncle c. 76.2 cm long; rachis 28.2 cm long. Floral pedicel c. 2.1 × 0.2 cm, warty; sepals brownish yellow, dorsal lanceolate, 1.8 × 0.4 cm, laterals lanceolate, 1.8 × 0.3 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex mucronate; petals brownish yellow, spatulate, 1.7 × 0.4 cm, pendent, margin undulate, apex mucronate; lip with claw c. 0.1 × 0.3 cm, lateral lobes free relative to midlobe, 0.4 × 0.6 cm, yellowish, at an angle 90° to midlobe (in the flattened lip), not overlapping it, margin entire, apex obtuse, midlobe oval, c. 0.9 × 0.7 cm, pink with dark pink streaks, sinuous, margin undulate, apex apiculate, callus cymbiform, bifid; column clavate, 1.10 × 0.25 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth triangular, apex acute, arms of the column elliptic, 0.1 × 0.2 cm, apex obtuse; stigma elliptic, with basal hooks; anther one, pinkish.

Distribution and habitat:— Endemic to cerrado in the southeast.

Phenology:— Flowering January.

Etymology:— Honouring the collector of the type, Alvim Seidel.

Taxonomic notes:— Encyclia seidelii is similar to E. andrichii , but as stated in the notes for that species, it differs in being rupicolous with shorter and more rounded lateral lip lobes. It is known only from the type, but there are plants in cultivation.
