Remarks. Ectoedemia haraldi is the most common and widespread Ectoedemia feeding on evergreen Quercus , not only in France, but also throughout southern Europe where it occurs from Portugal to Turkey. In France it is the only species recorded outside the Mediterranean area, along the Atlantic coasts north to 16Charente. Adults, especially females, are easily confused with the species of the albifasciella complex and E. andalusiae , but mines are inseparable from those of E. ilicis , E. heringella , and E. algeriensis . Before 1942, Ectoedemia haraldi frequently was misidentified as E. suberis , although adults are relatively easy to distinguish by the hairpencil in the male and hairy abdominal tip in the female of E. suberis . We have not been able to trace the record from Corsica, nor have we seen any specimen from there.
