Platypalpus chimganensis View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 4–6 View FIGURES 4 – 6 )

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂, labelled: “ UZBEKISTAN, Chimgan, damp valley, 41°38'N, 70°02'E, 1200 m, 18.v.1989, M. Barták” ( CULSP). PARATYPES: UZBEKISTAN: 2♂, same data as holotype; 2♂, Karamazar, damp meadow, 41°32'N, 69°48'E, 500 m, 18.v.1989, M. Barták ( CULSP); 1♂, same data ( ZIN).

Diagnosis. Black species with 2 pairs of vertical setae, both basal antennal segments and base of postpedicel reddish-yellow; thorax microtrichose including katepisternum, all setae yellow; legs yellow with moderately long, blunt-tipped apical spur on mid tibia and yellow posteroventral setae on mid femur.

Description. Male. Head black, light grey microtrichose, face more silvery microtrichose and yellowish translucent (best visible in lateral view). Frons 0.07 mm broad and almost parallel-sided (about as broad as pedicel). Face keel-shaped (collapsed?) in all specimens but seems broader than frons. Clypeus microtrichose. Gena lustrous and narrow. Antenna with both basal segments reddish-yellow, postpedicel yellow on proximal third, brown apically, stylus brown; postpedicel 2.2–3.3X longer than broad, stylus 1.3–1.6X longer than postpedicel. Palpus rather narrowly leaf-shaped and tipped, yellow, moderately long (about 2/3rds as long as proboscis), with single pale subterminal seta and 5–7 additional short white setae laterally. Ocellar setae pale, » 0.11 mm long. Two pairs of pale vertical setae, inner rather long (» 0.20 mm). Occiput with pale (yellowish white) setae, short on dorsal part and longer ventrally. Proboscis slightly longer than half height of head, brownish black. Thorax black, light (almost whitish) grey microtrichose including katepisternum. All setae pale, whitish yellow. Chaetotaxy: postpronotal seta long and strong (several additional much smaller setae present); acrostichals narrowly biserial, short (» 0.06 mm), about 8–11 setae in one row; dorsocentrals equally long, irregularly 1–2 serial (several small setae on sides and also near last strong pair), 8–12 setae in one row, last 1–2 pairs strong and long; notopleuron with 2 long setae on posterior part, upper one stronger and longer than lower one and additional smaller setae nearby; 1 long postalar and 1 pair of scutellar setae (with 2 small hairs). Wing clear with pale veins. R4+5 and M1 nearly straight and almost parallel. Crossveins separated. Cu slightly recurrent and nearly straight, depigmented in apical part. Section of costa broadly confluent with R1 distinctly darkened. Costal seta yellow, long. Squama yellow with yellow fringes. Halter pale yellow. Legs yellow including all coxae and last tarsal segment. Fore femur slightly thickened, setae both dorsally and ventrally 2/3rds as long as depth of femur. Fore tibia distinctly thickened, short setose. Mid femur slightly deeper than fore femur, yellow posteroventral setae slightly shorter than depth of femur. Mid tibia with apically darkened blunt tipped apical spur as long as depth of tibia, its shape similar to P. cothurnatus Macquart. Hind femur and tibia thin, short setose. Abdomen blackish brown, lustrous, tergites 1–2 broadly and tergite 3 only very narrowly microtrichose on sides; sparsely covered with pale (whitish yellow) setae short on dorsum of tergites and somewhat longer on sides of last two segments. Genitalia ( Figs 4–6 View FIGURES 4 – 6 ) with right cercus digitiform, moderately long, rather broad, broadly rounded apically, bearing several ordinary setae of different lengths; left cercus slightly longer than but as broad as right cercus, digitiform, somewhat narrowed subapically, rounded on apex, with ordinary setae of different lengths; left epandrial lamella rather subtriangular, with large ventral projection bearing about 20 very long curved setae; right epandrial lamella subglobular, bearing row of several long subapical setae; right surstylus short narrow. Female. Unknown. Length: body 1.8–2.0 mm, wing 2.2–2.6 mm.

Etymology. The species is named after the name of the type locality (Chimgan, a town in Uzbekistan).

Distribution. Uzbekistan.

Remarks. The species described above may be identified according to the key. It is the only species of Platypalpus with two pairs of vertical setae and simultaneously completely microtrichose katepisternum.
