Reschetnjakaera nom. n. (gen.)

Diagnosis (based on Dogiel & Reschetnjak 1952; Petrushevskaya 1975; and O’Dogherty et al. 2021): The skeleton comprises a porous structure; pores are small, circular to subcircular, almost uniform; the skeleton has a shape of a flattened spheroid, lenticular shape, or a shape similar to the planet Saturn with its ring system (or to the Moonbeam Flying Saucer monument, Ontario, Canada), the central part of a skeleton may be convex, thick, and/or dark; the central part of the skeleton is surrounded by a spongy peripheral depression; cortical shell is latticed; margins of the skeleton are slightly inflated; chambers of the skeleton are irregular (spongy-type); spines originating from the periphery of the skeleton and/or radial spines going through the skeleton may be present; the gown may be developed and located not on the main surface of the skeleton but beyond, between the aforementioned peripheral spines; the pylome may be present (observed only in large skeletons) extended to the central dark part of the skeleton, outlined by a narrow furrow, free from spines, and has a shape of a simple funnel.

Epoch: Miocene–Recent.

Etymology: In honour of Vitalia Viktorovna Reschetnjak, an excellent scientist on Birifrangentia (Acantharia plus Polycystina) and Phaeodaria whose scientific career was tragically prematurely interrupted ( Olnud 2018).

Note 2: Here, her surname was transliterated into Latin script in the same way as she did herself in Reschetnjak 1981.

Grammatical gender is feminine.

Transcription (International Phonetical Alphabeth): /rɪ.ʃɪ.tnɪˈkeː.ra/
