Geochus apicalis Broun 1921: 569 . Type locality: Gordon’s Knob , near Nelson.

Type Depository. BMNH :LT,3 PLT; NZAC :1 PLT.

Distribution. New Zealand (NN).

Remarks. Broun did not indicate the number of specimens examined to establish this name. Five syntypes were located in the Broun collection (BMNH) and the NZAC: one that we designate as the lectotype to stabilize the epithet, with the four remaining becoming paralectotypes.

We place this species into a species group with G. plagiatus .

Paralectotypes (all card-mounted): 3 ( BMNH), same as lectotype but one specimen carded dorsally, all with a full stop “.” after the Broun number, and one specimen lacking Broun’s identification label; 1 ( NZAC), “Gordon’s Knob. 15.11.1914 [in Broun’s hand]// Geochus apicalis . [in Broun’s hand]// T. Broun Dup. Coll.” .
