Geochus setiger Broun 1893a: 295 . Type locality: Mount Pirongia .

Type Depository. BMNH : LT, 7 PLT; NZAC : 1 PLT.

Distribution. New Zealand (WO).

Remarks. Broun stated that he had a “good series” on which to base this species, and we consider seven specimens in the Broun collection (BMNH) and one specimen in NZAC to form the syntype series. In addition, there are also a single variant in MHNP and many unlabeled Broun specimens in NZAC, which we considered not to be part of the syntype series. We designate one specimen as the lectotype to stabilize the epithet, with the seven remaining becoming paralectotypes.

We place this species into a species group with G. similis .

Type Material Examined. Lectotype, here designated ( BMNH): card-mounted, “2889. [in Broun’s hand]// New Zealand. [red underline] Broun Coll. Brit. Mus.1922-482.//Pirongia// Geochus setiger .[in Broun’s hand]”. Paralectotypes: 7 ( BMNH), same but, 4 (one mounted dorsally) with “Pirongia [printed] (2 had “setiger . [in Broun’s hand]”, and 1 had “ Geochus setiger . [in Broun’s hand]”), 2 (one mounted dorsally) with “Mount Pirongia [in Broun’s hand]”, and 1 (mounted dorsally) with only the Broun number; 1 ( NZAC), “Pirongia [in Broun’s hand]//illegible [in Broun’s hand]// T.Broun Collection//A.E. Brookes Collection”.
