Apechthis obscuratus ( Cresson, 1865) comb. nov.

Pimpla obscurata Cresson, 1865: 36 .

A female (IES # 385) lacks a “Cr” label –the way Gundlach used to mark the specimens returned by Cresson; so there is no evidence that it was ever seen by Cresson, who stated (1865: 36) that he only saw a single specimen. Furthermore there is a note in Gundlach’s handwriting in his copy of Cresson’s paper that the specimen was returned to ANSP. Townes and Townes (1966) assigned this species to Ephialtes View in CoL , but Ephialtes sensu Townes View in CoL should correctly be referred to as Apechthis View in CoL (see Fitton et al. 1988).
