Giesberteclipta unicolor View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 23–26 View FIGURES 23–26 )

Description. Male. Integument mostly metallic dark violaceous with greenish reflections on some areas, especially pronotum and abdominal ventrites; antennae black, opaque from basal third of antennomere VI; anteclypeus and parts of mouthparts reddish brown.

Head. Frons, vertex and area behind upper eye lobes finely, abundantly punctate, except nearly smooth central area of frons close to postclypeus. Frons longitudinally concave, with yellowish-white pubescence partially obscuring integument (whiter depending on light intensity), except glabrous nearly smooth area; with long, erect dark setae interspersed, especially close to eyes. Vertex with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, gradually sparser from area between antennal tubercles to prothorax; with long, erect, sparse dark setae close to eyes. Area behind upper eye lobes nearly glabrous, with a few long, erect dark setae close to eye. Area behind lower eye lobes finely, sparsely punctate; with short, sparse yellowish-white setae close to eye, with a few long, erect, both yellowish-white and dark setae. Genae much shorter than lower eye lobe; minutely, densely punctate except smooth apex; with short, sparse yellowish-white pubescence close to eye, glabrous on remaining surface. Postclypeus finely, abundantly punctate on wide central area (punctures finer than on frons), smooth laterally; pubescence as on frons on punctate area, glabrous on smooth area; with long, erect dark seta on each side of wide central area. Labrum with long, nearly decumbent, sparse dark setae, and fringe of golden setae on anterior margin. Antennal tubercles with finely abundantly punctate except smooth apex; with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument on punctate area, glabrous on smooth area. Gulamentum smooth, glabrous from eyes, rugose-punctate, with long, erect, sparse yellowish-white setae between eyes. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.59 times length of scape (0.33 times distance between outer margins of eyes); in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.44 times length of scape (0.25 times distance between outer margins of eyes). Antennae 1.2 times elytral length, reaching posterior sixth of elytra. Scape finely, moderately abundantly punctate dorsally, sparsely punctate ventrally; with long, erect dark setae throughout, slightly denser on posterior third of inner surface. Pedicel and antennomeres with dark, decumbent setae, denser from basal third of antennomere VI; pedicel and antennomeres III–VI with long, erect dark setae on inferior area of inner surface; pedicel and antennomeres III–V with a few long, erect dark setae on apex of dorsal surface; antennomeres III–V nearly entirely cylindrical; antennomere VI slightly, gradually widened toward apex; antennomeres VII–XI forming slightly widened club. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.89; pedicel = 0.26; IV = 0.71; V = 0.79; VI = 0.89; VII = 0.73; VIII = 0.58; IX = 0.58; X = 0.52; XI = 0.74.

Thorax. Prothorax longer than wider, narrower anteriorly than posteriorly; sides gradually, distinctly divergent from anterolateral angles to about middle, rounded from this point to about posterior quarter, then nearly parallel-sided. Pronotum with three slightly elevated gibbosities, together T-shaped, one slightly oblique on each side before middle, another centrally, elongated, from slightly before middle to posterior quarter; moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate except smooth narrow anterior area, and on gibbosities; with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, denser laterally and posteriorly, except glabrous smooth areas, with long, erect dark setae in- terspersed. Sides of prothorax with moderately finely, abundantly punctate, except finely, sparsely punctate anterior and posterior areas (anterior area gradually widened from pronotum to prosternum); with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, with long, erect setae of same color interspersed, except nearly glabrous anterior and posterior areas. Prosternum moderately coarsely and abundantly punctate on about posterior half, finely, sparsely punctate on anterior area (somewhat transversely striate on part of this area); with dense grayish-white pubescence on posterior half, with long, erect setae of same color interspersed; with long, erect, sparse grayish-white setae anteriorly. Prosternal process distinctly narrowed centrally. Ventral surface of meso- and metathorax coarsely, moderately abundantly punctate (punctures slightly coarser on mesothorax); with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, denser laterally; with long, erect, moderately abundant grayish-white setae on metathorax, especially laterally. Scutellum minutely punctate, with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument. Elytra. Slightly narrowed from humerus to about middle, nearly parallel-sided from this point to about posterior quarter, than slightly widened; apex slightly obliquely truncate; humeral carina well-marked from base to about posterior sixth; coarsely, abundantly punctate; with sparse grayish-white pubescence along suture (pubescent area wider on anterior third), and distinctly denser pubescence of same color on apex (appearing to be whiter depending on light intensity); with long, erect, moderately abundant dark setae, gradually shorter from base to apex, denser on posterior quarter.

Legs. Femora with long, erect, sparse setae, both dark and yellowish-white dorsally, only yellowish-white ventrally (distinctly more abundant on ventral surface of peduncle). Tibiae with long, erect dark setae, longer dorsally and laterally, and dense yellowish-brown pubescence on posterior third of ventral surface.

Abdomen. Ventrites with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, sparser on central area of I–IV, more yellowish on V. Posterior margin of ventrite V slightly concave.

Dimensions in mm (holotype male / paratype male). Total length, 8.10/7.40; prothoracic length, 1.40/1.30; anterior prothoracic width, 0.90/0.80; posterior prothoracic width, 1.15/1.05; widest prothoracic width, 1.30/1.10; humeral width, 1.45/1.30; elytral length, 5.35/4.90.

Type Material. Holotype male from ECUADOR, Pichincha: Mindo , VI.2019, J. Vlasak col. ( MZSP) . Paratype – same label ( JVCO) .

Etymology. The name refers to its uniform body color.

Remarks. According to the original description of Giesberteclipta Santos-Silva, Bezark & Martins, 2012 , the antennomeres are slightly enlarged from VII, not forming distinctly antennal club. In G. unicolor sp. nov., the distal antennomeres form a distinct antennal club. However, as all other features of the genus are present, we believe that the new species needs to be included in Giesberteclipta .
