Mesochorus longiceps is the type species of Dolichochorus Strobl, 1904. This genus was synonymised under Astiphromma by Townes et al. (1965) but reinstated as a valid genus by Schwenke (1999). Wahl (1993) listed Dolichochorus as a synonym of Astiphromma but did not include longiceps in his cladistic analysis. Broad & Watanabe (in prep.) have found that Dolichochorus is a rather basal member of the Mesochorinae , and distinct from Astiphromma .
