TYPE:— ECUADOR. Napo: Cotundo , 1100 m, collected by A. Hirtz, flowered in cultivation in Quito, 18 Mar 1985, Hirtz 2245 (holotype: MO!).

Distribution: — Ecuador, Peru.

Notes:— This proliferous species with purplish flowers is similar to the also proliferous M. scandens and the nonproliferous M. antennifer . It is recognized by acuminate lateral sepals vs. acute in M. scandens and M. antennifer and the fimbriate margin of the petals vs. margins shortly ciliate in M. scandens and entire in M. antennifer .
