TYPE:— COLOMBIA. Putumayo: Valle del Sibundoy. Vereda San José del Chunga. ca. 2200 m. 19 Jan 2007, flowered in cultivation Mar 2007. ex cult. Medina T. 466 (holotype: HPUJ, MEDEL –photos!, UGDA –drawing!).
Distribution: — Colombia.
Notes:— Myoxanthus ortizianus is similar to M. priapus ; they share the purple-yellow flowers covered abaxially with short trichomes, lateral sepals forming a suborbicular synsepal, petals yellowish purple-stripped, obovate to oblong basally, then contracted, and lip with a thick, erect basal callus. However, the former is distinguished by its narrower petal apex forming a slender tail vs. apex narrow not forming a slender tail, and a scarcely trilobed lip with rounded lateral lobes below the middle vs. lip oblong with small acute lateral lobes near the middle.
