TYPE:— MEXICO. Without locality, cultivated by J. Wilmore of Oldford , England, collected by Henchman s.n. (holotype: K!).

Distribution: — Mexico.

Notes:— The habit of this Mexican species is similar to that of M. congestus and M. pulvinatus in having ramicauls covered by whitish sheaths with scars of fallen trichomes and elliptic leaves. However, M. octomerioides is distinguished by having an ovary and perianth tinged with pink vs. yellowish to whitish and whitish flowers of M. congestus and M. pulvinatus , respectively, and segments of the flowers more oblong and do not open widely vs. segments more ovate that often open widely on the other species. Myoxanthus octomerioides is also similar to the Centro American M. cereus , both with oblong perianth segments that do not open widely, but the first is easily distinguished by its flowers tinged with pink vs. creamy and sessile leaves vs. petiolate leaves. See Incertae sedis at the end for commentary on Pleurothallis elongata Klotzsch , which Luer (1982) included as a synonym of M. octomerioides .
