TYPE:— ECUADOR. Guayas: El Oro, Hda. Daucay, 500 m, 23 Apr 1944, Cornejo & Bonifaz 2531 (holotype: K, illustration of type in Luer (2009) as Fig. 30!).

Distribution:— Ecuador.

Notes:— Luer (2009) described the narrow, needle-like leaves of this species as unique in the genus. However, similar leaves are now also known to be found in M. sotoanus , described in 2010 ( Fig. 6G View FIGURE 6 ). This species is similar to

M. scandens and M. pennellius , but M. aciculifolius is distinguished by the long-ciliate margins of the middle lobe of the lip.
