Basionym: Pleurothallis scandens Ames (1923b: 18–21) View in CoL .

Type:— COSTA RICA. Cartago: La Estrella, Lankester & Sancho 401 (holotype: AMES!; isotype: AMES!) .

Distribution: — Costa Rica.

Notes:— This proliferous species was described from Costa Rica in 1923 by Ames and reported by Luer (1992) to occur also in Panama and Ecuador. However, as discussed by Rojas-Alvarado & Karremans (2020), the material from Panama and Ecuador belongs to different species. The Ecuadorian plants are likely to be M. pennellius (see M. penellius notes), whereas those cited for Panama are M. panamense . Myoxanthus scandens is most similar to M. pennellius , but the former is recognized by its sepals with an acute apex vs. obtuse to round, wider petals basally that conspicuously contract into a thickened narrow apex vs. narrowly ovate petals, slightly contracted above the middle, a lip with two longitudinal lamellae above the middle vs. lip with two longitudinal lamellae from the base to near the apex.
