TYPE:— VENEZUELA. Bolívar: Apácara-tepui, Río Tirica , 1700–1850 m, 23 Jun 1953, Steyermark 75957 (holotype: AMES; isotype: NY!).

Distribution: — Guyana and Venezuela.

Notes:— This species has been reported from only Guyana and Venezuela. It is caespitose with slender ramicauls and narrow leaves producing successive single flowers. The habit is similar to M. hirsuticaulis and M. merae , but the yellowish to brownish flowers with abaxially shortly pubescent sepals are most similar to M. merae , which is only found in Ecuador and Peru. It is distinguished from M. merae by the wider petals with a more pronounced narrow, thickened apical section, more pronounced and oblique lateral lobes of the lip and a pair of longitudinal calli emerging below the middle of the lip extending to the base.
