(1962: 268). TYPE:— Colombia. Amazonas , Schultes 8584 (holotype: IAN!; isotype: AMES).

Distribution: — Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and western Brazil.

Notes:— This widely distributed species is easily recognized among Myoxanthus species by the short, repent habit and yellow flowers. The only other species of the genus with a repent habit is M. hystrix , but its flowers are easily distinguished. Myoxanthus trachychlamys has yellow flowers with acute, oblong sepals and petals and oblong lip with a small, acute lobe on the lateral margins, whereas M. hystrix has yellowish flowers with purple veins, triangular petals with the base contracted and a subclavate apex, a small, oblong, recurved lip and column with broad wings.
