Literature. Hampson 1919: 63 (as Gaea ); Gaede 1933: 781 (as Gaea ); Heppner & Duckworth 1981: 25 (as Euhagena ); Pühringer & Kallies 2014 (as Euhagena ).

Material examined. Type material. Holotype. ♀ “ Type ” “ Hong Kong; 61, 49 [reverse side]” “ Tinthia variegana [sic] Wkr, Type ” “ Tinthia ? variegata ” ( BMNH).

Additional material. 1♂, 1♀, China, Guangdong Prov., Guangzhou, 24.V.2011, emerged from Bridelia tomentosa ( CAK, NSMT).

Redescription. Male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Wingspan 30 mm; forewing length 13.5 mm; body length 15 mm. Most body parts black, with yellow, white or red markings. Head: proboscis well-developed; labial palps crème in distal 2/3 ventrally; frons white laterally; pericephalic scales crème. Thorax: with some yellow scales cranially. Legs: fore coxa mainly crème-yellow; hind coxa yellow; femurs with scattered yellow scales; hind tibia with tufts of black, yellow tipped scales at 1/3 and at the distal end. Forewing: largely opaque, black, with remnant basal transparent area covered with yellow scales. Hindwing: largely opaque, black, with basal 2/5 transparent. Abdomen: tergite 2 with some yellow laterally; tergite 3 with a yellow proximal band; tergites 4–7 orange-red; sternite 3 with yellow distal band; sternites 4–7 basally yellow and with yellow distal bands; abdomen tip and anal tuft black dorsally, yellow ventrally.

Female ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Very similar to male.

Genitalia. Male (Gen. Prep. AK769, Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 9 ). As per genus description; apex of valva not pointed. Female. Not examined.

Diagnosis. Cannot be confused with any other species.
