COMMENT: A synonym is Platyrrhinus Saussure, 1860 , nee Platyrrhinus Fabricius, 1801 , an emendation of Platyrhinus Clairville, 1798 (a beetle); see de la Torre and Starrett, 1959, Chicago Acad. Sci. Nat. Hist. Misc., 167:1. Hall, 1981: 144, did not consider Platyrrhinus Saussure, 1860 , to be preoccupied, maintaining that Fabricius' name was an incorrect spelling of Clairville's name, which is not a homonym.
