Literature record in Uruguay. Martínez et al (2016). Widely distributed in the country. Remarks. Discussion on generic placement of the species is presented in Bravo et al. (2006). This species
together with Psychoda alternicula Quate , and P. lativentris Berdén , compose the species complex known as the “alternata complex” ( Quate 1955). This species group is characterized by the presence of infuscation spots on the wing apex, antenna with 13 flagellomeres, 11th-13th reduced upwardly and the short arms of the ascoids. P. alternata differs from the other species in the complex by having a V-shaped subgenital plate ( Quate 1955; Cordeiro et al. 2011). This species presents a cosmopolitan distribution ( Bravo et al. 2006; Ibañez-Bernal 2008).
