Current name: Alternanthera pungens (L.) Kunth  ( Amaranthaceae  ).

Note: Melville (in Kew Bull. 13: 173. 1958) designated a cultivated specimen in the Sherard herbarium (OXF) as the holotype but this would not have been seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name.
