Debilos nivatum Scherrer , sp. nov.

( Figs 119, 138)

Description. Female. Fore wing 4.12 mm. Head: Clypeus punctate, markedly convex, most prominent ventrally, CWH 1.48; MWC 0.52, MLW 2.09, MWW 0.36; malar space long, MSM 1.55; supra-antennal area with median, longitudinal carina; minimum distance from eye margin to occipital carina laterally distinctly longer than mandible base.

Mesosoma ( Fig. 119). Pronotum lateral portion next to collar sub-laterally inconspicuously strigate-rugose, next to mesopleuron inconspicuously corrugated, epomia inconspicuous; notaulus moderately impressed, uniformly sculptured with mesoscutum, reaching about middle of mesoscutum; mesopleuron dorsal margin medially inconspicuously strigulate, epicnemial carina restricted to ventral 0.5 of mesopleuron, posteriorly inconspicuously, densely corrugated; mesopleural groove moderately corrugated; sternaulus anterior half faintly corrugated; postpectal carina medially straight; metapleuron, subapical fovea shallow, subcircular; pleural carina stout; propodeum anterior area very long, PLL 1.12, anterior transverse carina distinct, complete, slightly, uniformly curved, posterior area without distinct ridges or rugae, uniformly colliculate with anterior area, spiracle subrounded, SWL 1.15, propodeal apophyses of regular height, thorn-shaped, AHD 2.65. Legs: Hind t4 posterior lobe about 0.2 × as long as anterior lobe. Fore wing vein (Rs+M)b perfectly straight, limit with crossvein 1m-cu distinct, ramellus absent; vein Rs&1M uniformly moderately curved; crossvein 1cu-a straight, arising distinctly apicad vein Rs&1M, by about 0.6 × 1cu-a length, angle with vein M+Cu distinctly obtuse; vein 2Cua about same size of crossvein 2cu-a, FWC 1.11; areolet moderately large, APH 1.00; vein 2Ma approximately as long as vein 2Mb; vein 2Mb absent; crossvein 2m-cu with bulla short, about 0.2 × as long as vein length or shorter; vein 2Rsb slightly sinuous. Hind wing vein 2-1A moderately long, reaching about 0.6 × the distance to wing margin, HWC 2.38.

Metasoma ( Fig. 119). T1 finely coriarious, spiracle at about basal 0.6, inconspicuously prominent, T1LW 2.82, T1WW 2.83, T1GL 0.40; T2 moderately short, apically robust, T2T1L 0.72, thyridium subcircular, T2LW 0.83, T2WW 2.08. Ovipositor approximately straight, OST 0.43, dorsal valve with nodus absent, notch absent; ventral valve tip without distinct serrations.

Color. Head and mesosoma black, legs orangish brown (127, 068, 015), metasoma mostly dark brown (066, 042, 029). Head: Scape ventrally and pedicel dorsally lightest; flagellomere 4 apical parts and 5–10 dorsally white; mouth parts whitish (218, 216, 195), except mandible apex blackish. Mesosoma: Collar entirely, tegula, subalar ridge, scutellum apical 0.6 and propodeal apophyses white. Legs: Fore and mid coxae and trochanters, hind tibia basal 0.1, t1 apical 0.75, and t2 basal half and apical margin white; femora basal margin, fore and mid tibiae anteriorly and posteriorly slightly whitish. Fore wing with two faint, dark spots, on apical half of cell 3M and 1+2R1, and cell 1Cu apical parts, and respective surrounding areas. Metasoma: T1 orangish brown; T1 apical 0.2 and T2 apical 0.4 with white stripe, T2 stripe central 0.5 anteriorly concave, concavity apex reaching about half stripe width; T3 apical half lightest; T6 apical margin, T7 and T8 dorsally, and sternites medially white; ovipositor sheath dark brown, except basal 0.55 ventrally whitish; ovipositor light brown (187, 144, 084).

Male. Unknown.

Variability. Unknown.

Comments. Included in the D. trochanteratum species group (see item Species Delimitation). Within its species group, D. nivatum is most likely to be confused with either D. trochanteratum , D. petiolatum , or D. labeculatum because of their very similar general color pattern and body shape, but can be easily distinguished mostly by the presence of white marks on the mesosoma. Debilos nivatum has the collar entirely, subalar ridge, scutellum apical 0.6 and apophyses, white, whereas the other species have only the dorsal portion of the collar and the propodeal apophyses white.

Etymology. From the Latin word nivis, meaning “snow,” in reference to the white marks on the thorax of this specimen.

Distribution. Costa Rica. Puntarenas Province: Osa Peninsula, Rincon (08°41’60”N 83°28’60”W) ( Fig. 138).

Material Examined. Holotype ♀ from COSTA RICA, Rincon, Osa Peninsula , Puntarenas Prov., 10–15.VIII.1966, ARMoldenke leg. ( AMNH). Antennae apical flagellomeres lacking, otherwise in good shape, mounted on triangle point.
