Distribution in Bulgaria: Petrich, Gotse Delchev [1]; Stara Zagora, Harmanli, Biser (Haskovo Region) [2]; Mirkovo (Sofia Region), Banya (Plovdiv Region), Tvarditsa, Gabrovo [3].
Remarks: The lice collected from Passer montanus (L.) were identified as Philopterus fringillae (Scopoli, 1772) by Touleshkov (1962, 1964a, 1974). I re-examined the corresponding specimens and re-identified them as Philopterus montani (Złotorzycka, 1964) .
