Origanum smyrnaeum Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 2: 589. 1753.

"Habitat in Creta & Smyrnae in monte cui arx inaedificata." RCN: 4291.

Lectotype (Paton in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 516. 2001): Herb. Clifford: 304, Origanum 4 (BM-000628969) .

Current name: Origanum onites L. View in CoL View at ENA ( Lamiaceae ).

Note: Ietswaart (in Leiden Bot. Ser. 4: 85. 1980) stated, "Type: Linnaeus s.n. (holo BM)", possibly in reference to Clifford material, but this is insufficiently precise to constitute formal typification.
