Type material. Holotype, type locality, (H 6.2 mm, W 3.1 mm) (ex CB, legit Paolo Paolini, Livorno) ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 A) ( MNHN IM- 2000-27708); paratypes: 1 sh, type locality, (ex PP, MCZR, 00080) ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 B–C); 4 lv, type locality, ( PP); 6 sh, Arcipelago toscano profondo, (SB-MS); 1 sh, Arcipelago toscano (IN); 1 lv, Is. di Capraia (LI) 300 m (AR); 1 sh, Arcipelago toscano (LI) 400 m (AR); 8 sh, Is. di Capraia (LI) 250–280 m, 1978 (BA), 2 sh, Capo Sant’Andrea, Elba Is., 250/ 300 m (CS); 1sh, Secca delle Vedove, 200 m (CB).

Type locality. Secca delle Vedove, 20 miles N of Capo Corso, northern Tyrrhenian Sea, 200– 300 m.

Other material examined. Italy: Capo Sant’Andrea, Elba Is., 250/ 300 m, 1 fragment (CS); San Vito lo Capo, Sicily, unspecified depth, 1 sh ( MCZR, coll. Monterosato M- 21-17319) ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 I, J), this is the specimen cited by Monterosato: “ L’individu que j’ai trouvé à S. Vito est d’un blanc de lait avec des stries un peu élevées, 200 m ”. ( Monterosato 1874: 276); Ponza Is., 260 m, 1 sh (CS). France: Corsica, 3 sh ( MCZR coll. Monterosato, ex Tiberi? M- 21-17319); Capo Corso, Corsica, 450 m, 2001, 1 sh (CS); no locality, 1 sh ( MCZR, coll. Monterosato M- 21- 17319).

Distribution and habitat. Known from the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Jonian Sea. Recent. Only empty shells, from 200– 450 m. Found sympatric, often at different depths, with M. olivoidea , M. nofronii n. sp., M. columbellaria and M. karpathoensis .

Etymology. Dedicated to our dear friend Cesare Bogi (Livorno) expert malacologist.

Description. (in parentheses the data of the holotype) Shell of medium size for the genus ( Figs 19 View FIGURE 19 A–L; 27N), height 6.2–7.5 (6.2 mm), width 2.9–3.45 (3.1 mm), solid, fusiform, biconic, rather slender, H/W=1.956–2.407 (2.000). Protoconch paucispiral ( Fig. 28G View FIGURE 28. A – L ) shiny, of 1.25–1.4 (1.3) convex whorl (last 0.25 whorls nearly flat), d 0.24–0.30 (0.25 mm), Do 0.45–0.525 (0.50 mm), DM 0.60–0.725 (0.70 mm), h 0.50–0.55 (0.55 mm), sculptured by numerous microgranules. Protoconch-teleoconch boundary well marked, flexuose, opisthocline. Teleoconch of da 4.2–4.5 (4.2) slightly convex whorls. Sculpture starting with 4–5 (4) weak spiral cordlets crossed by 14–15 (15) well spaced axial opisthocline ribs on the first whorl. Additional spiral cordlets between the adapical ones, and between the suprasutural one and the suture. Spiral sculpture of equidistant cordlets (slightly more spaced toward the base), of equal size, fine and flat, slightly broader than the interspaces: 3–5 (3) cordlets on second whorl, 5–6 (5) on third, 25–34 (22, with obsolete spirals on the periphery) on last whorl, of which 7–10 (8) above the aperture. Axial sculpture present only on the first whorl. Two columellar folds. Growth lines visible over the entire surface. Outer lip sharp, slightly thickened internally with 7–11 (7) denticles, the second and third posterior more pronounced. Anal sinus shallow. Siphonal canal short, and wide. Coloration monochrome, white. Live collected specimens with a very light brownish hue in the last whorls. Protoconch of the same color as the teleoconch. Soft parts unknown.

Remarks. M. bogii n. sp., according to the available material, is rather constant in shape and sculpture (Table I). M. olivoidea differs from M. bogii in its larger size, the different chromatic pattern of hazel-tawny background with a series of subsutural blotches more evident on the last whorl, the larger apical diameters (Table II) and the more numerous spirals on the last whorl (34–39 v. 25–32 of M. bogii ). M. cossyrae n. sp. has a different coloration with a beige background and darker flammulae, more pronounced spirals, and a higher ratio H/W (2.424 v. 1.956–2.407 of M. bogii ). M. nofronii n. sp. has a different pattern, beige-pinkish background with faint darker and lighter blotches at the periphery, 3 spirals on the first whorls (v. 4–5 of M. bogii ) and 5–7 spirals above the aperture (v. 7–9 of M. bogii ).
