This family includes about 280 extant species divided into two genera: Rakiura McFarlane 1973 , a monotypic genus from New Zealand, and the cosmopolitan Helicopsyche von Siebold, 1856 ( Morse 2017) . The genus Helicopsyche is distributed in all biogeographic regions, but with high diversity in the tropics. In Brazil 26 species of Helicopsyche have been recorded ( Holzenthal et al. 2015).

In Serra da Jibóia, we collected two species of Helicopsyche : Helicopsyche (Feropsyche) succincta Johanson & Holzenthal 2004 and the new species that is described and illustrated here.
