(Figs. 56, 62,63)

M. frontalis var. anthracinus Richards, 1945: 345 View in CoL , fig. 41.

M. anthracinus: Zikán, 1949: 193 View in CoL , fig. 408; Richards, 1978: 296.

HOLOTYPE: ♀ Paraguay, Alto Paraná, Hohenau ( MCZC), not examined.

PARATYPE (Allotype): ♂ Paraguay, Alto Paraná, Hohenau (no date) (F. Schade) ( BMNH), examined .

FEMALE. Length of fore wing 9 mm; FHH/intOW 0.91; clypeus exceedingly wider than high, H/WClp 0.81, median angle obtuse, apex truncate as wide as half the height of an antennal socket; malar space very extensive nearly as much as 2/3 of the height of an antennal socket; tentorial pit as close to the eye than to antennal socket; mandible anterior surface without a prominent border; antennal scape exceedingly short; occeli widely separated, POL considerably more than two diameters, POL/OOL more than 2/3; occiput with margin distinct, foraminal area shaped ventrally as a shelf; hypostomal lamella narrow; mesosoma very robust as seen from above; pronotum short and wide, with lateral fovea, pronotal anterior margin medially with the lamella wide and little reflexed, region just behind raised into secondary margin that is acute and projects over the lamella, humeral region produced angularly, with well developed lateral lobe (Fig. 62), carina with lamella translucent, as seen from above with a sinuous profile, total width distinctly larger than that of mesoscutum, this wider than long, L/WMsc 0.95; fore wing short, LDis/ HMpl about 2; metanotum moderately convex; inner claw of hind tarsus with the apex narrow; propodeum strongly oblique, median furrow deep, wider posteriorly, somewhat triangular, practically reaching the anterior margin of propodeum, valve narrow; first segment of metasoma very short (Fig. 63), LSI/HMpl 0.87, apex about 2.1 times wider than the base, in lateral view with the dorsal profile not very high but regularly convex, spiracles not prominent, petiole defined but very short, sternum flattened, limit between sternum and tergum proximally marked by a prominent shining edge.

Sculpture: disk of clypeus with moderately dense fine punctation, and with poorly conspicuous more sparse larger punctures, area close to ventral margin reticulate, shining, with few large punctures; upper part of interantennal area and frons with dense subconfluent medium sized punctures; humeral region with very dense medium sized punctation showing granulate aspect, mesopleuron with a similar dull pattern but punctation less dense.

Vestiture: clypeus and frons with well erect relatively gross not very long hairs; eye with short not very distinct hairs.

Color: dark reddish brown; mandible, clypeus and face to upper border of ocular sinus, reddish orange; pronotal carina, apex of femora, elongated spot on dorsum of the fifth segment of fore tarsus, yellow; spot on frons and vertex around occeli, anterior median face of pronotum, anterior spot extending backwards at sides along the borders of mesoscutum, extensive ventral spot on mesopleuron, metapleuron, propodeum, dorsum of metasomal tergum 1, black or blackish.

MALE. Head exceedingly transverse as seen from above, in frontal view low and wide; interantennal area strongly prominent; clypeus slightly convex, distinctly wider than high, median angle obtuse, apex narrow gently rounded; malar space obsolete; tentorial pit closer to the eye than to antennal socket; antennal scape short and wide, ventral surface of antennomeres with distinct but not very shining tyloids, apex of the antenna very elongated (Fig. 56), with evident potential to be spirally rolled, antennomeres 11 and 12 cylindrical, 13 slender; clypeus with shallow poorly conspicuous very fine punctation, with some very sparse still less conspicuous larger punctures; clypeus and supraclypeal plate covered by moderately dense decumbent pubescence, with silvery reflexes; frons and vertex with many long and fine hairs.

Color: similar to female.

NEST. Zikán (1949, fig. 408) shows a photograph of one small nest, with oval comb and very short eccentric peduncle.
