linearis

Pomacea linearis Perry, 1811b : pl. 38, fig. 2. Type material —location unknown [probably lost (Petit 2003: 17)]. Type locality —“coasts of North America ”.

Remarks. Neither the description nor the illustration suggest that it is an ampullariid. Unknown to Say (1829: 260) and Binney (1865: 7). Paetel (1887: 479) may have been referring to Binney’s article when listing “ linearis Orb. Binn. Amer. 1869 ”. Considered a “helice” by Pilsbry (1927b: 63). Treated by Petit (2003: 39) as a nomen dubium.
