Diagnosis. Libythea geoffroyi geoffroyi is most similar to L. g. philippina , but differs from the latter in that the males have a narrower dark forewing margin, and that the females have a smaller blue patch at the base of the forewing. The male forewing dorsum has weaker white spots in the discal cell, cells Rs 4, M 1 and M 2; and both sexes have a less scalloped hindwing margin than L. g. philippina .

Distribution. Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands.

Remarks. The male of this subspecies can be distinguished by its blue-purple dorsal wing color, which gradually becomes dark brown along the wing margin. In almost all specimens, there are faint white marks in forewing cells Rs 4, M 1 and M 3, but these marks can be brighter in specimens from New Guinea. These white marks are variable within populations in New Guinea, and cannot be used to delimit taxa. Ventral marks are highly variable in both sexes.
